Kindergarten Screening
Kindergarten Screening will be held on Wednesday, April 18th and Thursday, April 19th. If you have a child who will be five (5) years of age before September 1, 2012, please notify the New Wilmington Elementary secretary at (724) 656-8866 ext. 3000 as soon as possible to request registration forms and schedule an appointment.
Ø Mrs. Joanna McKelvey, vocational agriculture teacher, and four students participated in the American Quarter Horse Congress held in Columbus, OH. Mrs. McKelvey and 25 students attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN.
Ø Ms. LeAnn Petro, business teacher, and nine students attended the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference held in Lancaster, PA.
Ø A team of four students received a monetary award for their entry in the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge contest. Their project has qualified for the state level competition. Students completed the project with Ms. Mary Beth Acker, gifted teacher. Ms. Acker and two students recently attended the World Affairs Institute Program in Pittsburgh, PA. The trip was sponsored by the New Wilmington Rotary club.
Ø Mr. Jonny Priano, vocal music teacher, and four students will attend the Pennsylvania Educators Music Association District 5 Chorus Festival to be held at Greenville High School. Students were selected through a competitive process.
Ø Mr. Gary Taylor, instrumental music teacher, and 24 seventh and eighth grade students will participate in the Lawrence County All-Star Band program to be held at Westminster College. Mr. Taylor and 25 high school band students also will participate in the Lawrence County All-Star Band program on January 5, 2012.

School Director Recognition Month January 2012
WHEREAS, the role of locally elected school officials has served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and local communities in meeting the needs of public education since the passage of the Free School Act in 1834; and
WHEREAS, these local boards have discharged their responsibilities to public education in a manner which has placed public education in the forefront of our educational systems; and
WHEREAS, locally elected officials have distinguished themselves and their communities in this nonpaid, volunteer public service commitment; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of these men and women should be recognized and appreciated by those who benefit from the workings of our public school system;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association hereby proclaims the month of January as School Director Recognition Month in this Commonwealth; and
FUTHER RESOLVE that this proclamation be communicated to all school districts, school officials and local communities in a planned program which brings visibility and awareness of the role of locally elected school officials to the citizenry of this Commonwealth.

Transportation Eppinger Busing (724-530-7176) transports students in Washington Twp., Plain Grove Twp., Volant Borough and the eastern portion of Wilmington Twp. - Lawrence county. Watson's Inc. (724-946-8555) transports students in Pulaski Twp., Wilmington Twp. - Lawrence and Mercer Counties.
